Rest-A Missing Element to Running Faster?

How much rest does a person need to allow their body to rejuvenate and feel fresh so they get the most out of their training program? Speed trainer, Adam Kessler of Columbus, Ohio, "strategically" plans rest periods for his personal training program. He has 3 specific times each year that he takes a week off of training. During these rest periods, he will usually stop his lifting program, but still does some cardio and stretching. So, how much rest does your body need to help you get faster, stronger?
